Playground is simple. They take a venue and turn it into a makeshift recording studio. They add a band, an audience, and give them one goal - create a song together in an hour, and then record it in one take.
It’s both gratifying and challenging, but we’re proud to have worked on Playground since its conception in 2010. Over the years, we’ve used different styles of filmmaking, storytelling, and technical stunts, resulting in a creative hybrid of both music video and documentary. The series can be viewed on Telus Optik Local.
This episode follows the Playground team as they travel to Edmonton to work with the electronic musical masters, Shout Out Out Out Out. We wanted to try something new with this event, introducing a slight sci-fi, b-movie style to the shoot itself. The results are fun and unique. This particular episode went on to win four Leo awards!
